Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal, and a strong weapon is crucial for any successful build. While starting with basic equipment, players progressively unlock superior weapons tailored to their preferred playstyles. This game blends roguelike and extraction elements, impacting how weapon acquisition works.
Acquiring New Weapons
New weapons are primarily discovered within Overgrowths. Exploring the game world organically yields new gear, but focusing on sword (Blades) or pistol (Rails) icons on the map directly leads to these weapon types.
Blades are melee weapons with unique movesets and abilities, while Rails are ranged weapons, each possessing distinct functionalities. Both weapon types have varying rarity levels, with gold being the highest and most powerful. As expected, rarer items boast superior stats.
To save weapons for later use, press the Cache button instead of Equip. Cached weapons are accessible for future runs by adjusting your loadout before each mission.
Obtaining New Starting Weapons
Beyond finding weapons during runs, players can purchase new starting equipment from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is accessible. Unlocking the Rails merchant requires sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Merchants offer a limited, rotating inventory. If initial offerings are unappealing, check back later for refreshed selections.
Weapon Upgrades
Weapon upgrades are available at the Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade function by increasing merchant affinity. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations judiciously due to their rarity.
Upon death, equipped weapons lose a segment of durability (indicated by the bar beneath their icons). Repeated deaths will eventually break weapons.
