39 More Classic Atari Games Are Making a Comeback

Atari's 50th Anniversary Celebration Expands with 39 More Classic Games

Atari, a pioneering force in home video game consoles, is celebrating its legacy with an expanded edition of its 50th-anniversary collection. The original Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration featured over 90 retro games, spanning from the Atari 2600 to the Jaguar, and included remasters of beloved titles like Yar's Revenge. This comprehensive package also boasted a five-part interactive timeline detailing Atari's history.

But the celebration isn't over yet! On October 25th, 2024, an Extended Edition will launch across all major consoles and the Atari VCS. This update significantly boosts the game library by adding a whopping 39 more classic Atari titles.

This expanded edition also introduces two new historical timelines: "The Wider World of Atari" and "The First Console War." "The Wider World of Atari" will feature 19 playable games and eight video segments, showcasing Atari's enduring influence on gaming through the decades. Expect new interviews, vintage advertisements, and historical artifacts meticulously researched and compiled by Digital Eclipse.

"The First Console War" timeline will delve into the legendary rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel's Intellivision during the early 1980s. This segment will include 20 playable games and six video segments, recounting the battle that ultimately saw Atari emerge victorious, albeit temporarily, before the 1983 video game crash.

While the full list of new additions remains undisclosed, Atari hints at a deep dive into the classic 1980 shooter Berzerk, alongside lesser-known late 80s titles and fan favorites from Mattel's M Network division.

Physical copies for Nintendo Switch and PS5 will also be available. The Switch version, priced at $49.99, will include a Steelbook with bonus items like Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs, and a replica Al Alcorn business card. The standard digital edition will be priced at $39.99. Get ready to revisit gaming history!
